Hodi
Practice speaking English in VR, in the places that matter in your first year in North America.
Hodi (say “HO-dee”) is what people say at the door in Swahili: “May I come in?”
What is Hodi?
Hodi is an English speaking game for Meta Quest 3. Put on the headset, step into an everyday scene, take a fictional character card and get things done in English by talking with AI-played characters. Before each scene you get 60–90 seconds to prepare (you can skip it); afterwards you get a result card with your stars, up to three corrections and pronunciation tips.
Who is it for?
Adults (18+) who have moved to North America and whose first language is not English. Hodi teaches American English. The interface is available in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.
Planned first scenes
- A customer-service phone call
- Booking a clinic appointment by phone
- Everyday small talk with neighbors
- A job interview
- U.S. citizenship interview practice (not affiliated with USCIS or any government agency)
AI characters
The characters' dialogue is generated by AI in real time, so every conversation is different. The characters are fictional and AI can make mistakes: Hodi is speaking practice, not legal, immigration or medical advice.
